Fractional Laser – Treatment Details
For some individuals, this treatment can be an uncomfortable process, thus a topical anaesthetic cream is placed on the treatment area one hour before the session, you can also take two paracetamol tablets half an hour before your treatment. This will make sure the procedure is as pain-free as possible. Our patients report feeling some warmth from the laser’s pulse, and sometimes a sunburn-like sensation is felt after the treatment which generally lasts for a few hours. Applying a gentle moisturiser to the area can help with discomfort. One treatment session can last between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area.
Most patients experience some redness after the procedure, which normally settles down within 2 to 3 hours. You may also experience some swelling, but this will diminish within a few days. Redness and any other side effects right after treatment can be subdued by applying ice-packs to the area for the rest of the day. Some downtime is associated with this procedure, so it will be necessary to temporary suspension your normal activities and take some time off work to rest. Downtime is usually between 7 to 10 days.
In the first few days after Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing, your skin will be sensitive. During this time, make sure that you are careful when washing your face and avoid using wash clothes, buff puffs or a facial scrub, as this can irritate the skin. By now, you should already notice the changes in your skin, and you will continue seeing the results over the next few months. This can include diminishing the appearance of scars, pigmentation, sun damage and wrinkles.
All patients can benefit from fractional laser skin resurfacing, which includes men and women, as well as all skin types. In addition, if you have wrinkles and lines caused by aging or acne scars and sun damage, you may be a candidate for fractional laser skin resurfacing. You will be able to gain a better idea about this treatment during your initial consultation with a professional.
