HYPERHIDROSIS (EXCESS SWEATING) SYDNEY
What is Excessive Sweating Condition?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition that is characterised by excess perspiration or sweating. The most common areas that individuals sweat are the feet, palms, face, scalp and underarms. Sweating often affects both sides of the body, and tends to happen in the day rather than at night.

Primary & Secondary Hyperhidrosis
In primary hyperhidrosis there is no specific underlying cause for the condition; whereas with secondary hyperhidrosis it is caused from conditions like endocrine disorders, infections, neoplastic diseases, metabolic disorders, respiratory disorders, stress and anxiety. Excessive sweating can upset many aspects of an individual’s life including work, self-esteem, relationships, and overall well-being.
Treating Excess Sweating
The best way to treat excessive sweating is by using anti-wrinkle injections to minimise the unsociable and unhealthy sweat levels. Anti-wrinkle injections are a fast, non-invasive and effective method to treat this condition.
The best way to treat excessive sweating is by using anti-wrinkle injections to minimise the unsociable and unhealthy sweat levels. Anti-wrinkle injections are a fast, non-invasive and effective method to treat this condition. Anti-wrinkle injections are used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis, specifically in the scalp, face and underarm areas. It can also be used in the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands, but it can be quite painful in these areas and sedation is required.
Anti-wrinkle injections treat excessive sweating by preventing the nerve signal from reaching the sweat glands in the treated area. This prevents the production of sweat, which means there is no blockage; simply, when there are no signals from the nerves, there is no excessive sweating. It also does not mean you will sweat more in other areas.
How does it work?
At Dr Saras & Co, we arrange a consultation prior to the hyperhidrosis treatment. This allows patients to discuss the procedure with a professional and ask any questions they may have. In addition, the benefits and risks of the anti-wrinkle treatment will be discussed so patients have a full picture of what they can expect during and after the procedure.
Anaesthetic cream is applied to the injection site, which insures minimal discomfort, then a starch-iodine test is performed. This includes placing iodine on the area to be treated so that the patient can sweat for a short period of time. Starch is then applied to the treatment area and the sweat becomes highlighted in black and identified for treatment with the injections.
The anti-wrinkle injection is then injected into the area with multiple small injections. The process takes around 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. Anti-wrinkle injections last between 8 weeks to 4 months but this is different for every individual. This does mean that patients may require repeat treatments to combat excessive sweating.
Is there any downtime?
There is no down time when treating excessive sweating with anti-wrinkle injections and patients are able to go back to their normal life right after treatment. This includes going straight back to work.
Some swelling and redness is common at the injection sites after treatment. You may also notice some bruising. All of these symptoms will heal themselves within 24 hours of the procedure.
