The Technology
Launched by Louise Walsh International in 2017, Plasma Pen is the world’s most advanced, user-friendly, precise, and effective nitrogen plasma devices on the market. The small, pen-like device generates a localised electrical field which ionises the surrounding atmosphere into nitrogen plasma energy. This plasma energy is transferred to the skin’s top epidermal layer, whilst also transferring controlled heat to the deeper derma structure of the skin.
The key targets of the deeper plasma treatment are the fibroblasts, the connective tissue cells that make collagen. Most fibroblasts are inactive but will be stimulated and re-activated by a wound-healing process or inflammatory response. The Plasma Pen re-activates these cells to begin production of collagen, which is how fibroblasting tightens skin.
Skin Tightening & Collagen Production
Plasma Pens are versatile beauty and cosmetic treatments that can treat various skin conditions for people of all ages and genders. Most commonly, it's used to tighten skin and smooth wrinkles. As we age, our dermal layer thins, less collagen is produced, and our elastin fibres wear out, causing our skin to wrinkle, sag, and lose laxity and texture. With Plasma Pen skin tightening treatment, drooping eyelids can be lifted, wrinkles can be smoothed out, and tighter skin can be achieved on the face, neck, and eyes. In addition, the Plasma Pen helps increase the formation of collagen on the treated area, resulting in an appearance that is more youthful. For those who would rather not undergo surgery for a facelift or eye lift, Plasma Pen provides an ideal method of rejuvenation.

The Plasma Pen is the #1 nonsurgical, soft-surgical hand-held skin lifting, skin tightening, and rejuvenation device & treatment in beauty line up. An effective way to enhance your appearance without the need for invasive surgery. This treatment, however, requires a few days of recovery. Once desired effects have been achieved with this treatment, there is no need to repeat treatments again. This treatment is the only one of its kind that can effectively treat ageing around the eye area with instant results and continuous results.
As the collagen and elastin production in our body starts to slow down, fine lines and wrinkles will start to gradually appear on the surface of the skin. The skin around the eyes is very delicate and is often the first area to show signs of ageing with lines. An alternative to eyelid surgery, Plasma Pen is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that can enhance the appearance of your skin.
The plasma gas produced by the pen encourages the production of new cells and collagen to create rejuvenation, plump skin. Superficial wounds will be apparent on the skin, but will flake off in the days following the treatment to reveal amazing results.
This treatment can also address
- Eyelids
- Crow’s feet

- Frown lines
- Neck and under chin

Plasma Pen is a non-surgical treatment, but as fascinating as it can be, the result of this treatment is comparable to surgical solutions. This is a high-tech treatment, using advanced plasma energy to achieve smooth younger-looking skin.
Plasma is the fourth state of matter and is an ionized gas. In this treatment, the ionized gas is what makes the results. Plasma Pen is a device releasing this ionized gas that holds an electrical charge. With a high or low atmosphere, moving manually, the device can target many skin concerns.
The Plasma Pen device practically burns a small part of the outer layer of the skin, forcing it into regenerating itself, increasing skin elasticity, and producing collagen. Hence the younger look for the result.
Before the treatment a local anaesthetic cream will be applied to the skin and left for approximately 60 minutes. Prior to the treatment your skin is cleansed of all cream and oils. As the treatment is performed you will feel a warm to hot prickly sensation as your specialist passes the plasma device over the skin making the dots.

FAQs
Once the desired results from the Plasma treatment have been achieved, they will last between 3-5 years on average. This is because the skin carries on ageing at the natural rate – this means some people may not need it done again and others may like another treatment after this period of time to maintain results.
This varies as the Plasma Pen can be used all over your body for different reasons. The time it takes to do each area depends on the area of concern and the individual.
The Plasma Pen doesn’t affect anyone's ability to work. For example, someone having the eye area done will still be able to see and drive and manage as they would normally. However, booking time off work may be beneficial to some clients, particularly when considering which area is being completed. For example, having a body treatment is easier to cover up, whereas someone who wears makeup and is uncomfortable with the healing process being on show may like some down time at home until the majority of the healing is over.
This also depends on the client and the after care. On average we say between 7-10 days, some people find the majority of the carbon crusts have come away by day 5, whilst people who may have a slower healing rate for whatever reason can take up to 14 days.
This is a question that is hard to answer without a consultation where we can assess the area and have a conversation with yourself about your expectations. On average 2 treatments are recommended. However, once we can see the area, this may differ.
Most people have no problem with the plasma and say nothing is really felt during the treatment as the numbing cream has done its job. However, this depends on the client’s pain threshold and sensitivity levels. If someone was uncomfortable during the treatment we offer regular tea/coffee and biscuit breaks as well as a second numbing cream as we want the client to be as comfortable as possible.
The healing process is the stages the skin goes through after having the treatment done. When first having the Plasma Pen treatment (depending on the area treated), you may experience swelling, heat under the skin, redness and slight uncomfortable feelings. However, these will subside after a couple of days. The first 7-10 days are the worst because after the treatment the client will be waiting for the carbon crusts to heal and remove themselves. After these crusts have naturally fallen off, they leave a slight red undertone underneath the skin which is barely noticeable. This will usually only last a week, but on some occasions lasts for a maximum of a couple of weeks. After this it is now just a waiting game for 12 weeks to see the results improve.
